To Fill Or Not To Fill

Travertine features natural voids and comes in two main varieties: filled and unfilled. The "filled" variant uses a color-matched filler to close holes for a polished look, while "unfilled" retains its natural voids for a rustic feel. If you need filler for unfilled travertine or to address voids in filled travertine, we can provide this service, known as “floating.” We use a tinted filler to match the stone's color, followed by honing and polishing once it cures for a consistent finish.

Deep Cleaning Soiled Travertine

Travertine surfaces can easily get dirty with use, especially unfilled travertine, which has a varied texture and natural holes. These areas can collect dirt over time, making cleaning more difficult. However, we can effectively remove stubborn dirt, eliminate years of buildup from poor treatments, wash away soap scum in showers, clear soot from fireplaces, and tackle various other cleaning issues. We’ll restore your travertine to its original, clean state.

Refinishing: Honing & Polishing

Stone Renew specializes in honing travertine surfaces to effectively address surface imperfections, including dull spots, scratches, etching, and general wear and tear. This process results in a flawless surface that appears as good as new.

Once these damages have been rectified, our skilled technicians proceed to polish your travertine using specialized diamond-infused pads or polishing powders to achieve a honed (soft matte) finish that is warm, inviting, and velvety smooth. Stains can unfortunately occur despite your best efforts and diligence in maintaining your surfaces. However, most of these stains can be resolved quite easily with the right approach.

It’s true most stains can be resolved, but who wants to go to all that trouble, expense and frustration when it can easily be avoided. A thorough professional sealing is a good, inexpensive way to head stains off at the pass.

Travertine is characterized by its neutral earthtone colors. For certain types of travertine, our skilled technicians can apply an enhancing sealer to intensify the color and enrich its natural beauty.
